Dr. Ilan Schwartz currently works at the University of Alberta, Canada, Department of Medicine. He is an infectious diseases clinician and researcher with an interest in emerging fungal infections, immune compromised hosts, and global health. Schwartz attended medical school at the University of Manitoba, followed by Internal Medicine training at Queen's University and Infectious Diseases residency at the University of Manitoba.
His research training includes a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp in Belgium, research in South Africa focused on clinical and environmental aspects of a novel fungus described as Emergomyces africanus. Following this, Schwartz undertook a research fellowship at the San Antonio Center for Medical Mycology in Texas.
